BRITE Horizons was formed as a joint effort between educators, parents and philanthropists to open up a world of books to individuals who, due to a print disability, struggle to read. Given the right tools, everyone can brighten their horizons through reading the books of their own choosing.
BRITE Horizons Corporation was formed with 4 distinct objectives.
They are…
- To research and develop computer based educational programs that provide assistive technology support for students who are struggling readers.
- To build an electronic library of digitized textbooks, novels and other instructional material accessible via the internet by individuals who have visual or language-related disabilities or visual impairments.
- To provide identified individuals who have visual or language-related disabilities and financial need with free technology and e-library services.
- To establish the necessary connections so that students with visual or language-related disabilities who are being educated in alternative schools, detention centers, residential treatments centers, adult learning centers, etc. will be able to take advantage of computer assistive technology programs.
BRITE Horizons Corporation will bring reading to agencies in the private sector whose obligation is to serve at-risk and historically underserved youth populations. We believe that reading empowers people and given the right tools, every young person can learn and enjoy reading.
BRITE Horizons Corporation is creating a scholarship fund to assist individuals who otherwise could not afford a personal computer, internet service provider or subscriptions to the BRITE Horizons Corporation digitized library.
